PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Principles of Prevention is designed for individuals new to the field of violence prevention, and for those who work in fields that involved children and families and may not know they have a role in preventing violence. This training will provide the foundational information they need to support a public health approach toward violence prevention.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of the session, the participant should be able to:

1. Define violence and the burden to the United States
2. Describe the public health approach to violence prevention
3. Identify the four levels of the Social Ecological Model
4. Distinguish primary prevention from secondary and tertiary prevention
5. Describe my role, responsibilities, and scope of practice as a team member

For Certified Public Health Professionals (CPH):
