Full description:
Family Matters is a family-focused intervention seeking to reduce alcohol and tobacco use among youth ages 12 to 14. Specially trained health educators mail information in booklet form to families and then provide a follow-up call to discuss the content. Topics include communication skills, parenting styles, conflict resolutions, family rules about use and access to tobacco and alcohol, educational encouragement and information relating to peer and media influences. Booklets have lessons for the adult family members, as well as activities for the adult and adolescent to complete together.
