To successfully implement your comprehensive plan and prevent violence, the strategies and approaches in your plan need to be implemented consistently and correctly, while continuously adapting and responding to the context of your local community. While the comprehensive plan provides an overview of what you are implementing, an action plan lays out how you will implement your plan and what resources will be required.

Engage the community in the implementation process. This includes involving residents, groups affected by violence, and current and potential program participants. Engaging these groups in implementation can enhance the effectiveness of strategies and increase the sustainability of efforts.

Once you have identified specific policies, practices, and programs, begin planning how you will implement them. First, develop an action plan. Include details such as:

  • Points of contact – a list of people responsible for various aspects of implementation, their roles and organizations, and contact information
  • Major tasks – including the goals, required resources, key people responsible, and criteria for successful completion
  • A schedule with tasks in chronological order, beginning and completion dates for each task, and milestones
  • Necessary supports, including but not limited to facilities, materials, training, computing equipment, and software
  • Staffing requirements and training, including the types of skills and skill levels needed

An Action Plan should include:

  •    Staffing and partners
  •    Tasks and resources
  •    Roles and responsibilities
  •    Staff training and support
  •    Implementation sites
  •    Process for developing standard operating procedures
  •    Communication plan
