CONSEQUENCES

Consequences to victims of child maltreatment are grouped in three categories:

Physical Consequences

• 1,560 children died from abuse and neglect in 2007
• Non-fatal abusive head trauma can cause loss of motor skills, vision, and learning disabilities
• Maltreatment during early infancy can cause the brain to form improperly
• It can also increase the risk for chronic diseases in adulthood
