What is intimate Partner Violence?

Intimate partner violence includes physical, psychological, or sexual harm by a current or former partner or spouse. It can also include threats of violence.

This type of violence can occur among heterosexual or same sec couples, or couples who are not sexually intimate. Intimate partner violence can vary in frequency and severity. It occurs on a continuum, ranging from a single episode of violence to chronic, severe battering.
