On the fourth and largest level, we find the societal factors that influence rates of violence. Usually, interactions on this level include general or specific factors that create a level of acceptance or tolerance for violence ñ for instance, laws and policies surrounding violence prevention that are created and enforced; media portrayal of violence; climate of tolerance or discrimination regarding various groups of people ñ as well as things that create and sustain gaps between different segments of society, such as health, educational, economic or social policies.
