Full description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) is a mentoring program to help young people (up to 18 years of age) reach their full potential by matching them with a positive and supportive adult role model. The program specifically targets youth from low income and/or single-family homes, as well as those with a history of abuse or neglect or with incarcerated parents or caregivers. Adult volunteers make a one-year commitment to meet with youth weekly to encourage personal growth, and the value of positive relationships with friends and families. This program is effective in reducing violent behavior, improving academic achievement, controlling substance abuse, and promoting good physical health and cognitive development.
