Full description:
Families and Schools Together (FAST) is a multifamily group intervention that targets children in elementary school who are at serious risk for academic failure and social problems. The program seeks to increase the well-being of children by strengthening relationships between families, schools and communities. Primary program objectives involve enhancing family interactions and stability; improving academic achievement; preventing substance abuse by children and parents; and reducing daily family stress factors. Collaborative teams of parents, caregivers, professionals and school personnel facilitate weekly groups. Culturally sensitive activities help to strengthen parents and teach children how to better connect to their work and school environments.
